SONIC TO THE BONE!

Hey! This blog is going to be one of the last I leave I guess before we hit the road. Of course I will be keeping you as up to date as I can on our tour adventures. We are going to miss and kiss goodbye to all of our friends and family shortly, however we can't be too sad because we get to see all of our extended family on the road - YOU GUYS =).

MON-STARS!

Monster rolled up to the Sonic HQ and dropped off a load of cool merchandise, drink and other stuff. So we were thinking about doing a competition with us and those energetic extreme mother fuckers so you dudes at home could win a bunch of rad stuff. What do you think?

ON THE ROAD AGAIN!

Hey there! Wassup, how are you dudes doing? ... Najs! 

Well, we're doing pretty darn awesome here in the Syndicate too thanks for asking! We've all been reunited after various press trips around the world and some time with friends and family etc - but now WE'RE BACK ON THE ROAD! We've been playing some wicked festivals this summer already. The most recent being Serengeti Fesitval in Germany and Zwarte Cross in Holland. 

17TH JULY - ZWARTE CROSS - MONSTERS OF ROCK!

Ok... To say we had a "good time" at Zwarte Cross is a bit of an understatement. After a blistering show we met our fans at the merch booth (Wassup Pim & Chantel!) to hang out for a while, then Robin, Karin and I grabbed two lucky fans by the neck and headed backstage to drink beers with Devil Driver and get some food... next we headed over to the Monster Energy Area, and thats where it all started to get a little crazy! Never should you include the words "OPEN BAR" and "NATHAN AND ROBIN" in the same sentence. We managed to have an evil time doing shots with the Monster Girls before meeting back up with the other Sonics...

We're still buzzing playing fesitvals... but there arn't many left! Soon the BBQ's and Beach and drinking in fields will swapped for indoor action... and Sonic is ready! We've got a whole huge massive awesome mindblowing tour coming your way, and we've appropriately entitled it...

WE RULE THE PRESS! - PART 2

Join us on the next part of mine and Karin's journey around Europe as we meet and greet fans, magazines, TV, Radio and journalists all in support of our upcoming album... 

 

23rd June - The Journey Continues

Waking up is never my favorite thing in the world. In the cold light of morning and a slight hangover I remember leaving my favorite hooded sweatshirt at the Backstage Bar, Finland. "Great" I exclaimed to Karin "Day 1 and I've already lost something". On that note I double checked for my passport, wallet and mobile phone. At least if I have them I can survive!

5.30am and we're out the door on the way to the airport. Breakfast didn't start until 7am so we thought we were gonna go hungry! But just as we were rushing to the taxi the receptionist shouted too us "Don't forget your breakfast bags!" ... I thought to myself "What the fuck is a breakfast bag?" but sure enough our Finland Nuclear Blast representative, Silke had phoned the hotel and got them to whip us something together for the morning. Awww, how sweet ;)

BREAKFAST BAG CONTAINS:

- 1 cheese and ham baguette 

- 1 banana

- 1 plum

- 1 fresh croissant + chocolate spread

- 1 strawberry yogurt 

So, we ate that in the taxi and then endured another hour of body and suitcase searching in airport customs (its amazing how many times you get stopped for having tattoos and piercings - narrow minded people or what?!) and then got on the plane for a 2 hour flight, touchdown in Donzedorf Germany, then on our way to sunny Madrid!

The Spanish Inquisition 

... Coming off the plane was a feeling of relief, great to breath some real oxygen after 4 hours of flying! Before we knew it we met our guide and new friend Pepo! He works for Nuclear Blast Spain and was one of the coolest people we've met - more about him later! Into the cab and off to the ROCK HARD/KERRANG! radio station!

Ok! Here is the deal. We didn't even get chance to shower! Straight to work! We were taken to the radio station and first did a photo shoot for Rock Hard Spainmagazine and then an interview. The fact that Karin and I both smelled and probably looked like a foot didn't seem to matter and we laughed and joked with our new Spanish muchachos about modern metal music, our favorite films and of course plugged the hell out of We Rule the Night... 

SIESTA TIME! 

... For those of you who don't know a Siesta is the spanish term for chillaxing! Basically it gets so fucking hot in the middle of the day in this beautiful country that EVERYBODY takes a good 2 hours to do absolutely nothing at all - awesome! Just the thought of this is something that would probably give our manager, Mike a heart attack "Something has to be done!" ... Not here Mikey! Karin, Pepo and I took a time out and went to small local restaurant to eat some Tapas and drink coffee. Here at Sonic we always like to enjoy the county's culture that we are in. In spain Tapas is a big part of that - these are wicked tasting little dishes of breads, meats, sausage, cheese and olives that you tuck into together almost buffet style! Very nice! ... Siesta over! Back to work!

 

We went back to the radio station and got introduced to the DJ. This man was crazy looking! He had a huge afro-perm of frizzy grey hair and was wearing a Saxon t-shirt *Karin : "I don't know how he got the headphones over that hair! It was incredible!"*. But this man really knew his stuff. He talked for what seemed like ages about everything from The Who, Metallica, Linkin Park, 30 seconds to Mars and others before getting to our interview. We had Pepo sat next to us interpreting everything he said. It was great for Karin to reminice about Sonic's last show in Spain with him and everyone can't wait for us to go back! We found out later that we were live on web-cam from their website and over 6,000 viewers were checking us our from South America which is were a huge part of their listeners are based. Cool!

Once all that was done we got to have some fun. We checked into our rather posh hotel (far too posh for me haha!) and showered. Next came the part Karin and I had been waiting for the whole trip! Paella and Sangria in the sun! The food was simply mouthwatering if you like seafood - no need for me to tell you though! Check out the pics below... 

 

One of the reporters invited us to see Between the Buried and Me who were also playing that night but we ended the evening with Pepo taking us to a local rock club to see his friends band 'En Sol' play which I guess means 'The Sun' - damn I'm clever. They were super progressive and very weird but it was probably one of the best gigs I have been to since seeing Lenny Kravitz live in London. We were sad to say our goodbyes but after a few beers Karin and I ducked out early for yet another early flight in the morning... 

... But let me tell you! The next night would be party night! Because! IT WOULD BE MY BIRTHDAY in none other than the Nuclear Blast headquarters, Germany! Awesome!

WE RULE THE PRESS!

"We Rule the Press!"

Tue 22nd June - 9:00am

Karin and I are sitting in Gothenburg Airport ready to start the first day of the press trip for new album We Rule the Night out this August. We're early for our flight so i've got my laptop out and Karin is being a geek with her crossword and sudoku magazine she has been addicted to since this spring. 

Nathan: Hej Rockers! We're back with an exclusive blog for you here!

Karin: Yup, your gonna be following me and Nath as we head around europe on our press trip for the upcoming album

Nathan: We're gonna meet lots of cool people from magazines, TV and radio from all over the place! First on the list is HELL-sinki, Finland! 

Karin: We've got lots of friends there from Nuclear Blast so its gonna be great to see them... *Nathan coughs* although Nath still didn't want to get up at "stupid o clock as he likes to call it, haha. 

Nathan: My beauty sleep is very important. I need more than you. 

Karin: Excuses excuses!

 

Nathan: I love visiting other countries. And the coolest part is on my birthday this Thursday, June 24th we will be in Germany at our record labels headquarters! Its gonna be great to see everyone and you can guarantee one hell of a party!

Karin: Yeah, they like to have any excuse really... I've been told by Mike and people that there will be a few suprises for you, dude! All I can say for now are the words "BBQ" and "Swimming Pool"! 

Nathan: What the hell? Haha! Ok! ...Well, I do like suprises but I hope its not too scary!

Karin: I can't promise that *Karin smiles*

Nathan: Oh my! Well, we'll make a blog of the fun we get up to no matter what and include some pictures!

Karin: Above is a picture of us with the Midsummer's Pole and the airport. I'm a little sad because Midsummer is one of Sweden's biggest celebrations held on 25th June, and we'll be in Spain. Wed 23rd June - GOOD MORNING MADRID!

Its now 7am and we've just got on the plane for the next leg of our press tour! Espania! I love spain and it is gonna be HOT  there. However, we're both feeling a little tender at the moment. I managed to get a bottle of Mountain Dew in the airport which helped but really we needed at least 3 more cups of coffee before we left the hotel early this morning. 

Karin and I ruled last night and it was cool to meet fans and reports who were super eager to hear all our stories from the recording process of We Rule the Night. Later we were taken to the 'Backstage Bar' in Helsinki and met up with some friends for a well deserved drink... or 10! It turns out tonight's theme was the "Shottirally" which basically means as much free shots as you can handle... little did we know that we also had to do another TV interview! Shock! 

(Nuclear Blast in Finland and people that helped with the press... also some hair metal dudes we never met before :P)  

SONIC HIGHLIGHTS: 

Download Festival / Metal Hammer Golden God Awards

We stormed the UK last week! Not only did we make a killer performance debue Donington performance at this years Download Festival (with Aerosmith, Lamb of God, Cancer Bats, Deftones, 30secondstomars, Atreyu) but we also got our butts down to London to play on the Metal Hammer Boat 'HMS Splatter' with Hell Yeah (feat members of Pantera and Mudvayne) and Rise to Remain before the Golden God Awards where we rubbed shoulders with everyone from Zakk Wylde to Toni Iommi... It being my home country n all I managed to meet up with a bunch of old friends for some jager shots also =). 

We Love you Metaltown!!!

In Sonic we all agreed this was possibly one of the best moments in our lives. The Metaltown show this year was amazing. More than 19,000 of you beautiful people came and rocked out with us on the main stage. It felt great to be back! Check out this killer footage we got from side stage.
